Russia banned from the use of Times New Roman and Arial fonts
Monotype company, which owns the rights to a number of popular fonts, including Times New Roman and Arial, has banned their use by customers in Russia.  Technically, this is implemented by blocking access to the corresponding library of IP addresses that are registered on the territory of the Russian Federation.

When trying to access fonts on the Monotype website, a notification that informs you about the introduction of the appropriate restriction pops up. Despite this, the use of a VPN service solves the problem, Vedomosti reports.

The most popular Monotype fonts are still available to customers in Russia.

In particular, they are still available in Microsoft Office packages. At the moment, the delivery of the company's new products has been suspended, which means that software packages can only be purchased from the remnants that were delivered to Russia earlier.

However, experts note that Monotype's ban on the Times New Roman font is not much terrible. The fact is that its graphic image is similar to a number of other fonts, the use of which is not prohibited in Russia.

According to the lawyers, the ban does not mean the need to completely abandon the use of fonts in Russia. The right holder has the right to a premature termination of the contracts signed earlier with domestic partners. However, this is associated with certain risks and possible losses for the latter. Such a measure has not yet been applied.
