What followed Russia's recognition of DPR and LPR
The day before, Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of two territories bordering Russia - the DPR and the LPR.  The decision was made after the meeting of the Security Council, at which politicians announced their unanimous opinion.  After that, the president addressed the citizens of Russia, expressing confidence in the support of his position.

The decrees have already been published and may be viewed here. In addition to these documents, the Treaties of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance were also ratified. They are signed by the Russian Federation and by the DNR and LNR as well. The agreements provide for parties’ mutual recognition of documents issued by each other's government agencies. Additionally, the parties agreed on the integrity and inviolability of the borders, as well as the joint protection of the border territories of the DPR and LPR.

The agreements will last for ten years with the possibility of prolongation for a five-year period.

Volodymyr Zelensky, in turn, also addressed the citizens of his country last night, saying that they should have no reason for insomnia. The Ukrainian leader noted that the country's borders will remain the same regardless of the actions of Russia, RIA Novosti reports.

The leaders of Germany, France and the United States issued a sharp condemnation of Russia's actions. They came to this opinion after a joint conversation, the result of which has been subsequently published. Politicians came to the conclusion that Russian measures violated previously signed Minsk agreements and threatened to retaliate.
