The new law on fakes in the media has been partially relaxed
The original version of the new draft law on revoking the license of the media for publishing fake news provided for automatic extrajudicial application of liability measures. While the new edition allows for the possibility of continuing activities at the first violation.

Recall that the draft law was submitted to the lower house of Parliament in April as one of the measures to combat the discrediting of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. It provided for rather strict sanctions in the form of revocation of a license for publishing false information.

According to the amendments to the bill, if the publication of fake news in the media occurred for the first time, representatives of the prosecutor's office are required to submit to a request Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Communications to suspend the activities of a news organization for up to 3 months.

If the media eliminates the violations, it will be able to resume its activities, but if a repeat violation is committed, the suspension period will be six months.

According to the new version, confirmation of repeated violations is required for revocation of the license.

In addition, now the deadline for Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Communications to issue a suspension order is 24 hours, unlike the original version, which provided for an immediate suspension.

Thus, according to representatives of the legislative body, it was possible to avoid unjustified infringement of the rights of news resources.
