SAME-SEX MARRIAGES WERE LEGALIZED IN MONTENEGRO

According to the Parliament of Montenegro, the country legalized registration of the same-sex marriages on July 1.

To enter into the force, the draft law needed 41 positive votes. As a result, 42 deputies voted “FOR”, other 5 spoke out against.

The law states that same-sex partners are entitled to the same rights as heterosexual couples. However, there is a note saying that such couples are not allowed to adopt children.

The amendments also regulate the property relations in same-sex couples, including inheritance and tax issues.

We should recall that at the end of 2019, abortions and same-sex marriages became available throughout the UK - Northern Ireland adopted the last amendment (same-sex unions remained banned in the region for a long time). In most of the UK entities, homosexual marriage has been legal since 2014.

It is necessary to note that a few days ago, it became known about the possible legalization of the same-sex marriages in Latvia - the corresponding initiative was sent to the Saeima. Thus, only five states out of 28 EU member states, including Latvia, still have not legalized such unions.
