Russia's plans to sell gas for rubles did not suit buyers
The President of the Russian Federation announced that the country would switch to ruble payments for gas supplies to "unfriendly countries."  The leaders of many European states have already responded to Vladimir Putin's initiative.  However, questions about how this will affect the energy balance of the global community remain open.

Francesco Javazzi, an adviser to the Italian Prime Minister, said that the country's authorities had not yet discussed decisions to pay for Russian gas in rubles.  At the same time, the expert expressed the opinion that paying for the energy resource in the Russian national currency would be an attempt to circumvent the sanctions imposed on the country.
Klaus Ernst, head of the relevant committee in the German Bundestag, said that it is technically impossible to pay for Russian hydrocarbons in rubles.
Moreover, such a circumvention of the sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU countries may provoke the European authorities to even sharper discussions related to boycotting the purchase of energy resources in the Russian Federation.

A similar opinion was expressed by Ursula von der Leyen, calling such proposals blackmail.  Payment in rubles would be a violation of the regime of sanctions and contracts, in which the currency of settlements is spelled out quite clearly.

The Prime Minister of Slovenia believes that the EU countries will not pay for gas in rubles.  At the same time, Janez Jansa expressed doubt that any of the representatives of the European Union in general has knowledge of how exactly the rubles look.

The President of Serbia called the decision of the head of the Russian state "problematic".  According to Aleksandar Vučić, information about this has already caused gas prices to rise by almost a quarter.
Although Serbia is "friendly" in terms of foreign policy relations with Russia, the country receives gas through Bulgaria.
If the latter refuses to pay in rubles, Serbia may experience difficulties.  At the same time, the head of the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy, Alexander Nikolov, said that Bulgaria itself does not see any problems with paying for gas in rubles.

The head of the Japanese Ministry of Finance commented on the decision of Vladimir Putin.  According to Shun'ichi Suzuki, the Japanese authorities will study this issue, tracking the possible risks of sanctions imposed by Tokyo on the Russian economy.

We should recall that, according to the logic of the Russian authorities, the transition to payment in rubles is a consequence of the freezing of Russian foreign exchange reserves in the US and the EU.  The state considers such a step as a de facto default of the financial institutions of the Western countries to the Russian Federation.  Under these conditions, "unfriendly" countries will have to buy rubles from Russia in order to pay for energy resources with them.

Russian experts believe that in this case, "Gazprom" will be put in a situation of shortage of foreign exchange earnings.  At the same time, for a number of projects carried out by the concern abroad, dollars and euros are necessary.
