About 500 minks got infected with COVID-19 infection on one of the Polish farms.  This became clear during the testing of animals.  According to preliminary data, the virus attacked adult animals, which are now in quarantine for 90 days.

The incident took place in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, located in the west of the country. The incident was reported by the chief veterinarian of the region. According to him, the animals received the got the virus from humans, reports TASS.

While the herd is in quarantine, it is planned to conduct various kinds of clinical and laboratory research.

After the three month period, veterinarians plan to retest the animals.

Earlier, scientists from Poland have already come to the conclusion that the transmission of coronavirus from mink to humans and vice versa is possible. In February of this year, such a statement was made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the republic. A few months earlier, the coronavirus was also detected on one of the mink farms. The COVID-19 strains found in animals at that time were similar to each other and belonged to the same line that had already been known.
