Russian allergist-immunologist Vladimir Bolibok made a sensational statement. The expert voiced the mortal danger of a new ‘Omicron’ strain of coronavirus, linking it with phenomenal contagiousness.
According to the doctor, one sneeze from an infected person can lead to the virus entering the body of another 100 people, which will ultimately lead to an overwhelming burden on hospitals, Moskva 24 reports.
Earlier, the Russian Minister of Health announced the detection of more than 600 cases of infection with ‘omicron’, most of which occur in the capital.
Bolibok noted that the new coronavirus mutation is not only the most contagious among its predecessors, but also surpasses other diseases in this.
The revealed fact, in turn, gives rise to the danger that not all patients will be helped to. The doctor recalled that measles was previously considered the most dangerous in this sense, but the new strain of coronavirus has surpassed it. Bolibok mentioned that 1 million infected per day have already been identified in the United States. At the same time, according to the expert, even talking or yawning is enough for infection, not to mention coughing or sneezing.
The expert also linked the infectivity of ‘omicron’ with the speed of its spread in the human body: the incubation period was reduced to 2-5 days compared to previous strains.
The expert noted the increased danger of the new strain for children, including an increase in the number of their hospitalizations. Bolibok stressed out that the most important task was to prevent child mortality.
