The Norwegian Ministry of Health has proposed to decriminalize drugs for personal use. It is noted that the country's authorities intent to take these measures in accordance with the recommendations of the UN and WHO.
According to Bloomberg, Norway plans to abolish the punishment for drug use. It will also be allowed to purchase and store them in small quantities, but exclusively for personal use. However, the described actions will still be considered illegal, but not punishable.
Norwegian officials noted that the punishment should be replaced with help.
If the amount of drugs exceeds the established threshold, the police will confiscate them, and the offender will have to go to a special consultation service.
Despite the high standard of living, Norway is among the European leaders in terms of deaths from drugs. In 2018, the government of the country made a decision to issue free heroin to drug addicts in order to prevent overdose cases and fight crime.
