North Korean resident will be shot for selling a pen drive with ‘Squid Game’ series
The story of the purchase of a pen drive with the Netflix series ‘Squid Game’ ended up with the death penalty and life imprisonment.  The incident took place in North Korea, where a man sold a pen drive with the series on it to a high school student, for which he was sentenced to death, and the student was sentenced to a life sentence.

The violation came to light after the authorities had caught seven teenagers who were watching a South Korean TV show banned in the country, reports Radio Free Asia.  The punishment befell not only the parties of the transaction, but also those who watched the forbidden series, as well as the employees of the school where the perpetrators studied.
Students who were caught watching will be sent to compulsory work.
School workers have been fired - they may be exiled to remote regions of the country or sentenced to hard labor in coal mines.

This situation was the first example of the application of the recently adopted law in North Korea on the ‘elimination of reactionary thoughts and culture’ against minors.  The law also provides for the death penalty for viewing, storing or distributing videos from a number of countries, in particular for products made in South Korea and the United States.

Now the authorities are trying to understand, how the man, who sold the pen drive, managed to bring it, presumably from China, in a situation where the borders were closed due to the coronavirus.  The investigation is ongoing, which means that new accused may appear in the case.
