NEW YEAR SCAM: THE EXPERT SPOKE ABOUT HOLIDAY FRAUD
The New Year holidays have become a time for viral greetings containing dangerous links to spread.  By tapping them, people download the dangerous software that provides access to the data contained on the device.

Thus, during the holidays, the scammers received a huge amount of information about different people, which they later began to use for criminal purposes.

Ilya Chetvertnev, the technical manager of the Angara group of companies, spoke about this problem. According to him, the attackers, taking advantage of the activity of users on the holidays, sent out special greeting cards. They contained special links, the passage of which was fraught with infection of the smartphone with malware, RIA Novosti reports.

Having received the information, the attackers launched attacks on the accounts of Russians at the beginning of the working week.

According to Chetvertnev, the first working days of the year were not chosen by chance, since at this time people had not yet had time to regain their former vigilance. The presence of a problem may, in particular, be evidenced by the receipt of a large number of SMS notifications, not only from services where a person has an account, but also from those where he is not registered.

To prevent such situations, the expert advised to install antivirus programs on the smartphone, as well as regularly update the installed applications. Developers usually strive to monitor for security holes and fix them precisely by creating updated software.
