The New York Times reported the discovery of two more drugs in addition to the banned trimetazidine in Kamila Valieva's doping test. They are used to improve the functioning of heart.
The head of the US Anti-Doping Agency, Travis Tygart, announced the presence of additional drugs to the media. He explained that the other two drugs are not officially banned, but a similar combination is used to increase endurance, more efficient oxygen consumption and reduce fatigue.
In addition to trimetazidine, L-carnitine and hypoxen were found in the sample.
We should remind our readers that the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva found herself at the center of a doping scandal - the banned substance trimetazidine was found in her sample dated December 25, 2021. However, the IOC became aware of this after the start of the Olympics. First, the athlete was temporarily suspended, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport took her side and allowed Valieva to participate in the competition. The fact that the skater is not 16 years old yet (Kamila is only 15 years old) was also taken into account, and therefore she had a special protection status.
We should note that the American runner Sha'Karri Richardson accused the IOC of double standards. The fact is that an athlete from the States was suspended from the last summer Olympics after a similar problem with a doping test. Richardson stated that she was suspended because of the color of her skin, because there were no other differences between her and Valieva. The IOC responded that each doping case is individual and that Richardson's positive test became known even before the start of the Olympics - she received a suspension for a month.
According to the results of the short program, Kamila Valieva takes the first place.
The performance in the free program will take place on February 17. The IOC emphasized that if Valieva takes a prize, the solemn awarding will not take place, since the investigation has not been completed.
