Cards of sanctioned banks will no longer be supported by Apple Pay and Google Pay
It became known that Apple Pay and Google Pay services will no longer work with Russian banks that have fallen under sanctions. We are talking about VTB, PSB, Sovcombank, Otkritie and Novikombank.
It will no longer be possible to pay with cards of these banks from smartphones, the Central Bank said in its statement. However, the plastic cards will continue to work as usual.
The funds on the cards are available and beyond danger, the Central Bank recalled.
But there is a caveat - customers of banks that have fallen under sanctions (VTB, Otkritie, Sovcombank, PSB, Novikombank) will not be able to pay with these cards abroad. It will not be possible to make transactions with online purchases if the stores / services are registered in states that support the sanctions package.
There are no restrictions on payment by plastic cards on the Territory of Russia, the Central Bank added. The regulator also noted that funds in foreign currencies held in sub-sanctioned banks will be preserved - they can be received in the currency of the account.
