The update was announced by the press service of the International Olympic Committee. Along with the emergence of new sports, the IOC is considering an overall reduction in quotas for all athletes. First of all, this may affect weightlifting - the organization has serious concerns about doping.
The IOC is actively discussing the relevance of weightlifting at the 2024 Olympics.
The quotas will also be reduced for boxing, due to the suspension of the recognition of the International Federation of Amateur Sports by IOC. Despite the emergence of new sports, the total quota of athletes at competitions will be reduced to 10.5 thousand people.
