BREAKDANCING BECOMES SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES SPORT

The 2024 Summer Olympic Games will be replenished with new sports. Among them, there are breakdancing, surfing, skateboarding and rock climbing.

The update was announced by the press service of the International Olympic Committee. Along with the emergence of new sports, the IOC is considering an overall reduction in quotas for all athletes. First of all, this may affect weightlifting - the organization has serious concerns about doping.

The IOC is actively discussing the relevance of weightlifting at the 2024 Olympics.

The quotas will also be reduced for boxing, due to the suspension of the recognition of the International Federation of Amateur Sports by IOC. Despite the emergence of new sports, the total quota of athletes at competitions will be reduced to 10.5 thousand people.

We should recall that the 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris. It is also worth noting that in 2018, breakdancing has already entered the program of the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires - Russian Sergey Chernyshev took gold.

In 2020, the Summer Olympics were supposed to take place in Tokyo, but due to the pandemic, it had to be postponed. It is assumed that it will take place in 2021, from which experts expect a calmer epidemiological situation.
