The tensions renewed in the region of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), an unrecognized independent state on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan, on Sunday morning, September 27.

According to the Armenian and NKR authorities, the city of Stepanakert, which is considered the capital of the NKR, as well as a number of nearby settlements, were subjected to air and rocket attacks from the Azerbaijani military. Azerbaijan, in turn, blames Armenia for the shelling.

The martial law has been introduced in both states, as well as in the unrecognized NKR. A general mobilization has been announced in Armenia, an order has been issued to the personnel assets to appear at the territorial military commissariats.

We should recall that the conflict between two countries began 32 years ago, when the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region announced its secession from the Azerbaijan SSR. Subsequently, for two years in 1992-1994, a conflict flared up in the region, as a result of which Azerbaijan lost control over its lands.

Later in 1994, the parties signed a truce protocol through the mediation of Moscow, but this did not end up the confrontation.

Only this year, the armed clash that took place the day before, became the second in a row after similar events in July. Then Turkey intervened in the situation, sharply condemning the actions of Armenia and supporting the citizens of Azerbaijan, calling them “fraternal people”.
