Murmansk Oceanarium received bankruptcy claim
The tax authorities filed a lawsuit against the Murmansk oceanarium again.  Their financial claims amount to 328 thousand rubles.  However, whether the management of the organization will be able to pay off debts to the Federal Tax Service this time is a big question, given the financial obligations accumulated over the past few years.

The ‘Arcticservice - Murmansk Oceanarium’ company (has the status of LLC) has repeatedly become a candidate for bankruptcy initiated by the tax authorities.  This first happened back in 2018.  Then the claims of the Federal Tax Service amounted to 607 thousand rubles.  In 2021, the situation repeated, but with an amount of 450 thousand.
The matter did not come to the introduction of bankruptcy procedures, since the debts were repaid on time.
During the pandemic, the institution faced several difficulties at once, which the head of the aquarium, Irina Korotysh, informed the media about back in April 2020.  From March to November, the doors of the organization were closed to visitors in order to counteract the spread of infection.

The management associated the further survival of the oceanarium with the possibility of transferring assets to the ownership of the state or to the balance of the municipality.  The oceanarium's assets (building and land) were valued by the authorities at 13.7 million rubles (cadastral value).

The performances of pinnipeds artists were curtailed.  The owner considered closure of the aquarium and laying off the employees in order to pay for the maintenance of sea creatures’ life.
Later, the shows for the public in the aquarium were resumed, but they did not bring significant income.
The organization continued to accumulate debts to the treasury and public utilities.  As a result, by the beginning of 2021, debts increased by more than a third to 4.625 million rubles.  The organization ended the year with a loss of almost 4 million rubles (76.5% more than in 2019).

In 2022, the oceanarium had to close the doors to visitors again.  Amendments to the legislation establishing new licensing requirements for such organizations have come into force.  Whether the owner of the oceanarium (the Sever Stroy company) will reconstruct the building and equipment to bring it in line with the new standards is still unclear.

The beneficiary of the organization, Hovhannes Shankoyan, as reported by the head of the region Andrey Chibis on January 20, proposed a plan for its rescue.  What exactly this concept is, is not reported.
The history of the northernmost European oceanarium dates back to 1984, when a marine biological institute for the study of marine mammals appeared on the territory of the village of Dalnie Zelentsy (located 120 km from Murmansk).
Scientists have been researching the practical use of seals in the Arctic.  In 1992, open-air water circus performances were realized on Semenovskoye Lake.  Four years later, an indoor oceanarium appeared in the city.
