The united cinema network Formula Cinema and Cinema Park filed lawsuits against the Canadian IMAX Corporation.
The applicants intend to stimulate the developer of systems for shooting and projecting images in large format to fulfill their contractual obligations. The lawsuits were filed on October 26, Kommersant reports.
Both sides have not yet commented on this.
Despite the fact that IMAX has not officially announced its departure from Russia, since June of this year the company has suspended its activities in the country. This follows from the data of the Association of Cinema Owners (AVK). In a conversation with RBC, the general director of the united cinema network Alexey Vasyasin explained that the corporation banned showing movies in its format, although the equipment belongs to the distributors themselves.
Earlier, a lawsuit demanding to terminate the contract for the maintenance of projectors in respect of IMAX was filed by the Empire of Games company, but so far the case has not been brought to an end. According to the chairman of AVK Alexey Voronkov, in this way cinema networks are trying to return the global film business to the country.
