The case of death after a quarrel in Viber ended with jail terms
On March 22, three residents of Volgograd were sentenced to jail terms, as they turned out to be the perpetrators of the death of the father of a 12-year-old girl, Roman Grebenyuk, after a verbal skirmish between parents in a chat.

The high-profile case was connected with the bloody denouement of events that took place on October 23, 2020.  Parents who were discussing their children's test task quarreled over a quote.  Anna Melkonyan, offended by Grebenyuk's comment, decided to punish the offender.

According to representatives of the regional Investigative Committee of the ICR, the woman initially turned to her husband (Arman Smbatyan).  After an unsuccessful attempt to "talk" with the alleged offender, who did not want to go out of the office, the citizen decided to turn to her brother Arsen.

The fateful meeting eventually took place.  The man inflicted fatal blows on the victim.  The second participant watched what was happening and, according to witnesses, was ready to join in the beating at any moment.  A resuscitator who happened to be on the spot was able to provide first aid to the victim.  However, a few days later Grebenyuk died in the hospital, without regaining consciousness.
The Melkonyans and Smbatyan were accused under several articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation of inflicting grievous bodily harm and threatening to kill.
The prosecutor's office demanded that the direct perpetrator of the crime be sentenced to 13 years of strict regime.  Arman Smbatyan, a participant in the “showdown”, was asked to be sentenced to 10 years, and Anna Melkonyan to 7 years in a penal colony.

As a result, the court sentenced Arsen to 11 years, and Arman to 7 years in prison.  The court also sentenced Anna Melkonyan to 5.5 years in prison, taking her into custody directly in the courtroom.  The judge had to announce the verdict for several hours.
