APPLE IS SUED FOR PARTICIPATION IN A FRAUD

A class-action lawsuit was filed against Apple in the USA - the plaintiffs are confident that the company could have helped the victims of a gift card fraud, but did not do this due to its participation in the fraud scheme.

We are talking about iTunes and Apple Store gift cards. The scammers called their victims and presented themselves as the tax inspectors or the lawyers of the detained relatives. After that, they informed people that it was necessary to urgently transfer money to pay the taxes / treatment / debt, and for this purpose, they had to buy the gift cards and tell them the code on the back side. Having used the code, the attackers made expensive purchases on the Apple website and resold them afterwards.

When it comes to the iTunes scheme, the fraudsters acted a little differently - they made purchases in their own application with a gift card. Thus, they got 70% and Apple got 30% per transaction.

The victims of the fraud turned to Apple, but the representatives of the company refused to help, explaining that it was impossible to cancel the transactions.

However, the plaintiffs strongly disagree with this, since before transferring funds to the application developers, Apple Company has the full control over them for 4 to 6 weeks. Moreover, the company has rights to track the buyers and sellers - the transactions in doubt could have been suspended. It turns out that the company could have helped the victims, but decided not to do it.

Having considered this data, the victims made a decision that Apple supported the scammers, since it had a stake in the scheme. A lot of users were deceived by the methods described, and the cybercriminals earned about $ 1 billion. It is estimated that Apple have received about $ 300 million from them.
