A 64-year-old resident of the Volgograd region was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for a murder with extreme cruelty. The man did not plead guilty.
The murder took place on the night of January 5-6, 2020 in Kalach-on-Don, Volgograd Region. According to investigators, the man, his girlfriend and her sister drank alcohol together, but later had a conflict. It is known that the dispute occurred because of the house - the sister of the man’s girlfriend said that the house did not belong to him, and that he must leave it. The man actively argued, claiming that he built it himself and could even burn it down. But the opponent incited him, declaring that he did not have the courage to do so.
After that, the defendant poured gasoline from the tank of his car into a container, poured it on the floor in the house and set it on fire.
The arsonist's girlfriend suffered severe burns and died in hospital a few days later. The sister of the deceased was also injured, but survived.
The man states that he did not want to set women on fire. He allegedly struck a match, which set his gasoline-stained hand on fire. After that, the floor caught fire - the defendant could not put it out. According to him, the man came to his senses after the arrival of the police.
As a result, the court sentenced the arsonist to 12.5 years in a penal colony with restriction of liberty for a year. In addition, justice ordered him to pay 800 thousand rubles of moral compensation to the daughter of the deceased.
