The Itar distillery, located in Kaliningrad, may find a new owner. The company that exported Stolichnaya vodka was declared insolvent, and its assets were put up for auction. Their winner eventually became the company Isis (JSC), which sources associate with the former Volgograd head Yevgeny Ishchenko.

The Itar production complex was put up for auction. The initial price was 362.3 million rubles. Isis agreed to pay $411.75 million. The lot also includes several plots of land, real estate, production equipment, and means of individualization.

Alexey Rayevsky, the head of Isis JSC, is also the head of Azimut JSC, owned by Ishchenko. In the past, the businessman not only held the post of mayor (from 2003 to 2006), but was also the founder of MDM Bank.

He owned 85% of Tamerlane, which operated the Kupochka retail chain. Last year, X5 Group acquired the asset. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed. According to experts, it could be from 4 to 6 billion.

In the past, Itar was one of the structures of Vestalka Holding. Its beneficiary was former Deputy Prime Minister of the regional government Konstantin Suslov. The company was known as the manufacturer of Stolichnaya vodka. According to data for 2014, the organization supplied about 450 thousand decaliters of alcohol to the foreign market (4.6% of the total import volume).

In the current situation, experts believe, it would be wise for the company to switch to the production of premium vodka brands or bottling whiskey and cognac. It is too expensive to transport alcohol from the Kaliningrad region to other regions of the Russian Federation, given the logistics costs. Major European markets that bought strong alcohol in Russia are now closed.
