Supreme Court of Russia clarified the driver's right to leave the scene of a traffic accident
The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation issued an peculiar ruling, which concerns the driver's right to leave the scene of a traffic accident.  Despite the fact that the lower courts found such behavior impossible, the higher court was not so judgmental.

The reason for considering the current rules in the field of traffic rules was the case against one of the drivers. The man lost control, but did not cause any damage to third parties and, having made sure of this, left the scene of an accident.

However, the traffic police officers have subsequently initiated an administrative offense case against the driver and brought him to justice.

The Magistrates Court found the driver guilty and deprived him of the right to drive the vehicle for a year, and other colleagues agreed with him during the subsequent challenge of the judicial act, but the Supreme Court of Russia expressed a different opinion.

Paragraph 2.5 of the Road Traffic Regulations actually instructs the driver to stop in the event of an accident, turn on the hazard warning lamp and put up the appropriate sign. After that, the rules provide for several options for the development of events, depending on the consequences of the accident.

At the same time, if as a result of the accident, damage was caused only to the property of the culprit and neither people nor the property of third parties were damaged, the driver has the right to leave, summed up the Supreme Court of Russia.
