New kind of criminal liability for reckless drivers has been introduced in Russia
A new norm of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which implies increased liability for a number of administrative offenses, has come into force. Among them, there are speeding by more than 60 and 80 km / h, as well as driving into an oncoming lane in case of traffic violations. In the cases under consideration, the driver, in addition to an administrative fine, can now face criminal punishment.
The new rule presupposes a sanction for those who have previously been brought to administrative responsibility on the same grounds and whose driver’s licenses have been revoked. It means that the legal development is introduced to deal with persistent violators who ignore administrative penalties, up to the deprivation of the right to drive the vehicle.
As a sanction for committing such a crime, several options are provided at once - from a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles and compulsory labor, to imprisonment up to two years.
The article also provides for the increased liability in case of repeated commission of a crime. In this case, the fine is increased to half a million, and the term of imprisonment - up to three years.
It is separately noted that the article cannot be applied to the cases of automatic photo and video recording.
What is more, new fines for reckless drivers, for example, liability for dangerous driving, may be introduced. It was proposed to establish a punishment for this in the form of a five-thousandth fine, ‘Lenta.ru’ reports.
