BASHKIRIA RECOVERED INDUSTRIAL ASSETS FROM EX-GAZPROM CEO
On April 4, 2024, entrepreneur Mityushov was stripped of shares and stakes in a number of industrial companies in Bashkiria. All of them were transferred to the revenue of the Russian Federation. The relevant decision was made by the Bashkiria Arbitration Court (AS RB) at the request of the country's Prosecutor General's Office.

Representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office in court explained the need for immediate execution of the judicial act. They pointed out the importance of ensuring the smooth operation of enterprises that are owned, as well as the risks to the country's economy.

The prosecutors stressed that the impossibility of immediate execution of the decision would lead to the possible bankruptcy of enterprises and disruption of normal business activities. At the same time, employees of organizations may be left without salaries. But the verdict of the court can still be appealed. The businessman's lawyers shared their plans to appeal.

The Prosecutor General's Office filed a lawsuit in January last year. It was alleged that the businessman, when he held the post of Gazprom Energy, as well as participating in various management bodies of Gazprom's subsidiaries, illegally seized a number of companies in the region.

The monopolization of strategic resources made Mityushov the actual beneficiary of several large enterprises (in particular, the Salavat Catalyst Plant, Salavtneftemash and Neftekhiremstroy). The transactions themselves were insignificant, and therefore the property should be returned to the state. The supervisory authority also filed a petition demanding that interim measures be taken. The court supported him, which resulted in the seizure of the property of the ex-head himself and several affiliated legal entities. A number of participants in the trial were prohibited from performing certain actions until the court proceedings were completed.

During the proceedings, the number of defendants increased to nine. Initially, apart from Mityushov himself, the defendants were two companies – Corporate Center and Mercury Capital Trust Management Company. The court added several organizations to them, along with ex-managers. The court brought to justice the current CEO of the Salavat Catalyst Plant and the Cyprus-based Donway Invest Ltd.

This case continues to attract attention not only because of the scale of the claims, but also because it concerns large industrial assets in one of Russia's key regions. The Prosecutor's Office continues to fight for the return of these assets to State ownership. She claims that the actions of Mityushov and his associates have damaged the country's economy.
