SELF-EMPLOYED WILL HAVE A RIGHT TO TAKE AN OFFICIAL LEAVE AND SICK LEAVE

The Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation, along with the deputies from United Russia, is working on legislative changes in the framework of social protection of self-employed citizens. We are talking about those who make a living by providing services within digital platforms: taxi drivers, couriers, tutors.

The new norms are designed to improve the social protection of such workers, giving them the right to official leave, sick leave and maternity leave.

The initiative is being developed jointly with the representatives of the largest digital ecosystems - YandexGo, YouDo and ProfiRu.

The need to work out amendments to the legislation has already been commented on by the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation. They indicated that with the development of digital ecosystems, proper conditions are necessary for the so-called ‘digital employment’. In these respects, the platform provides the self-employed with the opportunity to provide a service, but the end consumer is not an employer, and therefore such a relationship cannot be considered a labor one.

Majority of the Russians working in this way are registered as self-employment, which at the same time does not protect them from a social point of view, reports Izvestia.

The initiative being developed is related to the introduction of amendments to the employment legislation, which will provide for new forms of employment and social guarantees for citizens working in this format.

According to the head of the Ministry of Labor Anton Kotyakov, the number of registered self-employed in Russia increased by 1 million people and reached 2.4 million in less than a year. At the same time, about half of those registered receive income using digital platforms. The department predicts further growth in the number of self-employed, which by 2030 may reach 11 million people.
