It became known that several Russian cities have sent their applications to host the Summer Olympics in 2036. Kazan and St. Petersburg are among them.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, during a meeting with the Tokyo Olympic medalists, said that Russia is now considering the possibility of holding the Summer Olympics in 2036. Several cities have already submitted applications and Rostov-on-Don is planning to do it as well.
Lavrov advised the rest of the Russian candidate cities not to delay with applications.
London, Tel Aviv, Istanbul, Berlin, Montreal (Canada), Jakarta (Indonesia), Guadalajara (Mexico), Ahmedabad (India) also want to host the Olympics in 2036.
In 2024, the Summer Olympics will be held in Paris, in 2028 - in Los Angeles and in 2032 - in Brisbane (Australia). Russia has hosted the Olympic Games twice - in 1980 in Moscow and in 2014 in Sochi. At the last competitions in Tokyo, the Russian team took the fifth place, having received 20 gold, 28 silver and 23 bronze medals in the team scoring.
