IRINA YAROVAYA PROPOSED TO INTRODUCE A NEW SUBJECT IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
IRINA YAROVAYA PROPOSED TO INTRODUCE A NEW SUBJECT IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
State Duma Deputy Irina Yarovaya came up with an initiative to introduce "My Russia" discipline into the primary school curriculum.
It is planned that the new subject will include a number of areas, in particular, the first acquaintance with the history of our country, as well as information about Russia's contribution to the development of civilization.
The idea was voiced on Monday at a meeting of the Presidium of the Council of Legislators.
Commenting on it, Yarovaya called the situation when schoolchildren approach the topic of studying the Great Patriotic War as high school students "very strange".
According to the parliamentarian, acquaintance with history should take place in the first years of study. Yarovaya separately noted the importance of students gaining knowledge about their region and their country. This function will be performed by a new school subject.
The deputy also recalled the introduction of the previously announced idea of placing "Our Names" section in all school textbooks. It will contain information about the contribution of Russian public figures to the development of science, culture and technology.
It should be noted that the initiative to introduce a new school subject was already announced by Yarovaya at a meeting of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation a year and a half ago. Then the parliamentarian noted that the beginning of the study of history in the framework of the school curriculum only in the sixth grade was "a kind of delay."
