Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia is working on a draft law on the labor of convicts in the Arctic
The Federal Penitentiary Service is considering a draft law that creates an opportunity for convicts to work in the Arctic Circle. We are talking about the Arctic, where it is planned to involve people serving sentences in the construction of a number of industrial facilities, as well as garbage collection and landscaping.
The draft law is in the joint development of the Federal Penitentiary Service and the Ministry of Justice - the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service Alexander Kalashnikov talked about the work on the project the day before.
The statement was made during the opening ceremony of the International Penitentiary Forum, reports Interfax.
Separately, it was noted that those convicts who want to work in the regions of the Far North will be able to count on a preferential calculation of the term of criminal punishment.
At the same time, last October, the deputy director of the FPS, Anatoly Yakunin, published information that over 2,400 prisoners had already been employed in order to combat the resulting labor shortage. At the same time, slightly less than half of these workers are employed in the field of agriculture, the rest have found themselves in industrial construction, as well as in other areas. In addition, there are talks about attracting the labor of convicts to the processing of solid waste and the implementation of a number of state projects, where the shortage of labor resources is observed.
