US media company InfoWars files for bankruptcy amid conspiracy theories
The American company InfoWars has filed a lawsuit with a request to protect it from creditors.  The organization is managed by far-right conspiracy theorist and supporter of former President Trump, Alex Jones.  The website with the same name published "news" content, leading to numerous libel suits.

The company filed for Chapter 11 of bankruptcy law in the court of Texas.

After the court accepts the application, the organization will be protected from the claims of creditors for some time.  Now, according to the court data, the company's assets amount to only about $50,000, while InfoWars' debts are estimated at between $1 million and $10 million.

The reason for the collapse of the media company was the accusations of Alex Jones in libel and numerous defamation suits.  Relatives of the victims of the mass shooting that occurred in 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School applied to the courts with lawsuits.  28 people died then, 20 of them were children.
Jones' firm claimed that the shooting was deliberately staged by anti-gun rights lobbyists.
As a result, the last four years Jones has spent battling libel suits filed against him in Connecticut and Texas.  In 2019, a Texas court ordered Jones to pay $100,000 in a libel suit.  In November 2021, a Connecticut judge held Jones liable for damages in a lawsuit filed by 13 plaintiffs.

Experts believe that with the help of bankruptcy, Jones is trying to evade responsibility to the public.  At the end of March, the American conspiracy theorist already offered to pay $120,000 to each plaintiff, but his offer was rejected.

Will the director of InfoWars be able to avoid the need to compensate for for damages in the end - the court will decide, and the decision is expected this week.  The prosecutor's office is demanding more than $1 million from him.
