As the coronavirus spreads, millions of companies around the world are experiencing financial difficulties. But the air carriers are at the most difficult situation - there has never been such a large decrease in demand for the flights.
The scale of the disaster will have to be estimated in the future, for now it remains only to declare the bankruptcies of the air carriers.
The day before, the representatives of four subsidiaries of the “Norvegian” airline declared bankruptcy. This happened due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as due to the insufficient support from Sweden and Denmark, on the territory of which the companies were functioning.
Thus, 4700 pilots and crew members will become unemployed and will have to somehow survive until the end of the crisis. We cannot but note that last month, the planes of the company carried 60% less passengers than in the same period last year - the reason for this, obviously, was the rapid spread of the virus.
However, “Norvegian” has no plans to terminate the activities completely. The planes of the company will continue to make the domestic flights as well as the flights between several countries in the Northern Europe and some European cities. Thanks to that, other 2,000 pilots and crew members will be able to keep working in Norway, France and Italy.
