THE BRITISH SUPPLIER OF PORTABLE TOILETS WENT BANKRUPT
The cancellation of prestigious festivals and events in the field of sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic is causing economic blows not only for sports teams and the event industry. Experience shows that in this case, suppliers bear great risks as well.
A few days ago it became known that “John Anderson Hire” company filed for bankruptcy. It was engaged in the supply of such an important accessory of any decent event as portable toilets.
The company received a special status of the official supplier of portable toilets in 2018. Since then, it has been supplying its products during such status events as the royal races in Ascot, rugby at the Tuikenem stadium, and motorsport competitions in Brands Hatch.
However, the cancellation of such important competitions as the Wimbledon tournament, the Henley Royal Regatta and the British Open Golf championship, finally drowned the company in debt obligations.
The company, which recently had successfully served the finals of the British version of the “Dancing with the Stars” show, found itself without the necessary funds in an environment of social isolation and a nationwide blockade.
It is worth recalling that the Royal Regatta, which was usually taking place near the ancient English city of Henley on the Thames in the first week of July, is one of the most prestigious competitions in rowing. The open golf championship (usually in the second half of July) is also one of the largest events of its kind held outside the United States.
Wimbledon organizers stated that they are postponing the competition to next year. On the one hand, this is the first time the tournament was canceled after 1945 (then the war was the basis). This time, according to the press service on twitter, the reason for the cancellation was health problems.
The organizers of Wimbledon were most fortunate. They should get insurance in the amount of $ 141 million.
According to the British journalist Darren Rovell, tournament insurance has been made for the past 17 years. And although some British publications hastened to connect the first case of insurance with the SARS epidemic in 2003, a number of sources indicate that the pandemic as an insured event appears in the contract not for a long time. At any rate, the annual insurance payments (about $ 2 million) this time paid off handsomely. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about “John Anderson Hire” portable toilets.
