Sberbank is not up to games: sanctions have led SberGames to liquidation
Sberbank closes the gaming direction of SberGames. It was decided to stop hiring new specialists. Those employees who are already working will be offered to move to other structural divisions of the organization.

The company "Sberintertainment", which is a subsidiary of Sberbank, publicly released information about the launch of the gaming direction a little over a year ago. It was planned that the credit institution would invest $100 million in the development of "Sber Games".

The company " SberGames " was registered in April 2021 with a capital of 324 thousand rubles. The co-owners of Sberbank in the organization, according to information publications, were Alexander Mikheev and Alice Chumachenko. She is also one of the founders of Game Insight, a company headquartered in Vilnius specializing in publishing gaming applications for mobile devices.

Last fall, a domain was purchased games.ru . Sources suggest that the company could have paid about $10 million for it.

In total, about 200 developers collaborated with the company.

It was assumed that mobile games would be the main priority in the work. For this purpose, according to sources of the Kommersant publication, experienced specialists were hired from different places, including screenwriters, artists, designers.

After the Russian authorities initiated a military special operation in Ukraine, Sberbank found itself under sanctions. It has become impossible to trade mobile applications on the App Store and Google Play platforms.

On March 23, 2022, Alexander Mikheev replaced Alice Chumachenko as head. On June 7, he also resigned as director. Now, as the press service of Sberbank reports, Roman Tsygankov has been appointed to the position of head.

Experts suggest that the development team will not have any problems with further employment.

There is a shortage of experienced personnel in this field on the market now. It will be more difficult to get a job for top managers launching game-oriented projects. Their competencies are currently practically not in demand.
