RUSSIAN ANIMATION STUDIO WAS CLOSED AFTER UNSUFFICIENT CARTOON SCREENING
RUSSIAN ANIMATION STUDIO WAS CLOSED AFTER UNSUFFICIENT CARTOON SCREENING
Russian animators from the Vverkh animation studio tried to create an original cartoon Ogonyok-Ognivo, however, the film bombed at the box office. The creators managed to collect only 20.6 million rubles, while their competitors received billions in revenues.
The film Soul, made by the American studio Pixar, has collected revenue of 1 billion rubles. The Last Hero: The Root of Evil film brought twice as much at the box office. As a result, Vverkh studio made a decision to close the picture.
It is reported that the picture "Ogonyok-Ognivo", based on Andersen's fairy tale, was watched by only 107 thousand people.
The authors tried to add additional storylines to the story of the Danish writer, connected with the terrible curse of the protagonist and the miraculous rescue of a girl named Ogonyok. It turned out, according to some critics, to be a little absurd, but soulful work. However, that was all. And although the exact reasons for the closure of the studio have not yet been disclosed, one of the assumptions is that the company was actually ruined.
As conceived by the creators of the picture, the cartoon was to become another high-quality artistic work of animators. The classic technology of hand-drawn animation, in which characters are not created on a computer, but are drawn by hand, was taken as a basis.
According to the director of the film, Konstantin Shchekin, the film was created by 30 employees, and it took ten working days for one minute to be created.
The idea of the animators to be successful against the background of the observed interest in the technologies of hand-drawn animation did not materialize. On the social network, the studio thanked the viewers who were able to evaluate the result of the artists' work. A company representative, answering a question from a public visitor about future plans, said that people were likely to move to a new place of work, and the studio would be completely liquidated.
We should remind our readers that earlier the Vverkh studio had already created a cartoon dedicated to the Orthodox patrons of the marriage, Peter and Fevronia, which was also drawn. He grossed 50 million rubles at the box office, given the narrow target segment. With the new film, the animators hoped to attract a wider audience. The premiere was a success at the Annecy festival, but the release was a complete fiasco for the studio.
