"Republic" book store chain received the status of bankrupt
"Republic" book store chain received the status of bankrupt
The main legal entity of the "Republic" book store chain was declared insolvent. The decision on this was made on March 29 by the Moscow arbitration after the bookselling organization went through the monitoring procedure (since April 2021). We should recall that the chain itself became the initiator of bankruptcy in 2020 - debts to creditors exceeded 800 million rubles.
At the end of October 2020, Rusbankrot wrote about the network's plans to file a lawsuit for insolvency. By that time, having worked in Russia for about 14 years, "Republic" managed to open bookstores in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk. The management of the organization referred to the pandemic as the leading factor in bankruptcy, which led to losses of 406 million rubles in 2020.
Until 2021, the leading beneficiary of the company was Vadim Dymov. He owned 97.1% of the company, which operated 40 retail outlets throughout Russia.
However, back in 2020, a significant part of the stores closed, and their place was taken by the book chains Chitay-Gorod and Bukvoed.
Nine stores have been franchised to ProLife.
In December 2021, Kommersant reported that the network actually came under the control of Igor Deriglazov, the creator of the Meloman group of companies. Having previously developed the trade network of Kazakhstan, the businessman acquired ProLife from Regina Mukhidinova through the Intel-Royal company, in which his share is 99%.
The largest creditor of the "Republic" chain, which demanded more than 158 million rubles from it, was Eksmo Trade House. Sources say that by now these debt obligations have already been settled. In addition, the “Clever” and “Young Guard” publishing houses, a number of commercial banks, and 1C company were included in the list of creditors. Experts believe that the bankruptcy was primarily caused by management errors, which led to the accumulation of debts in the difficult economic circumstances caused by the pandemic.
