PUTIN WINDS UP NATIONAL CRISIS MANAGEMENT CENTER

The National Crisis Management Center (NCMC), which previously acted as a subordinate institution of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, is now abolished by presidential decree. Thus, the order of Dmitry Medvedev, issued in 2008, was canceled.

Medvedev allocated NCMC into a separate department in 2008. After 12 years, the center is liquidated, and its entire staff is transferred to the central office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

According to the country's leadership, the Center, acting as an independent legal entity, has shown poor efficiency.

It is assumed that now the coordination of actions in the field of prevention of the emergencies and response to them will become more balanced.

NCMC has existed since 1993 as a structure of the Ministry of Emergencies. Its main task is monitoring. In addition, the center ensured the work on interaction between the unified emergencies prevention system and civil defense forces, and was engaged in informing public authorities (local, regional, federal), their coordination among themselves in the elimination of emergency situations.

General Alexander Lekomtsev has recently been the head of the center.

The presidential decree on the liquidation of the NCMC is a consequence of changes in the legislation. The April legislative initiative of Vladimir Putin to amend a number of relevant laws was, as we know, supported by the State Duma.
