Herat Times news portal shut down due to the threats of Taliban
The Afghan news channel Herat Times has announced liquidation on its Telegram channel.  The reason for the closure of the media was the threat posed by the representatives of the Taliban movement (an organization banned in Russia).  The portal has been covering news for people living in the northwestern part of the country for several years.

More than 150 media channels in 20 provinces of the country stopped working after the August seizure of the large parts of Afghanistan by the Taliban.  The reason for the closure for most of the media was economic problems caused by the instability of the political situation.
In addition, bans were imposed by Taliban.
It is known that Herat Times employees posted their publications on Facebook and Telegram, where the media had 4 thousand and 89 thousand subscribers, respectively.  The company's website was closed down at the end of July.  According to the representatives of the media, more than 100 commercial organizations have collaborated with the leading media channel in the province of Herat.
From September 12, the publication of news content on social networks has been discontinued.
The National Union of Journalists has already appealed to international institutions with an appeal to influence the situation in the country.  Media workers are worried about their lives and safety.

According to experts, Afghanistan may completely lose civil liberties, including freedom of the press.  Herat Times’ subscribers also hope that the work of the media will be restored, albeit on different platforms.
