Experts summed up the results of bankruptcies that took place in 2021
2021 showed a significant increase in insolvency cases of citizens and a relatively small increase among legal entities.  In numbers, this is a threefold increase in the number of procedures compared to 2019 for individuals, while companies became more likely to go bankrupt by only 4%.  However, experts predict further growth of this indicator.

The high growth of insolvency cases of citizens is explained by the increase in the credit burden and the increasing spread of out-of-court bankruptcy procedures.

The relatively small increase in the number of insolvency cases among business representatives may be due to the moratorium, which was in force in 2020, and the months-long proceedings.

At the same time, statistically, the situation with bankruptcy cases among companies began to change in the subject composition: the outgoing year showed a significant increase in the number of organizations from the fields of education, sports, as well as the hotel business and catering. Such statistics can be directly related to the pandemic, which ‘crippled’ these areas at the beginning of 2020 against the backdrop of demand.

Most often, insolvency cases of citizens are initiated by the debtors themselves - such procedures are almost 95% of the total.

The remaining 5% falls on creditors, as well as the tax authorities. As for companies, the situation is the opposite with them: over 70% of insolvency cases are initiated by creditors, and only about 9% are accounted for by the debtors themselves, Kommersant reports.

The capital confidently holds the palm both in cases of insolvency of citizens and legal entities. In addition to Moscow, the leaders are St. Petersburg, the Moscow Region and the Krasnodar Territory.
