The loss of financial support from the state threatens to ruin the Fund for Assistance to HIV-Infected Patients. In the near future, the premises of the organization may be closed in both capitals of Russia and Nizhny Novgorod. The organization is known to have started collecting donations, hoping to avoid possible bankruptcy.
Its founder Anton Krasovsky told the media about the deplorable state of the AIDS.Center Foundation in his Telegram channel. Until recently, he served as a chairman of the board of the organization. The foundation’s failure to receive several state grants at once forced Anton Krasovsky to resign. He apologized to all his colleagues and friends.
The foundation was the brainchild of Krasovsky and Elena Orlova-Morozova, who was in charge of a department at the AIDS Center.
It was founded in 2016 to help the HIV-infected people and to carry out advocacy on AIDS prevention.
Since then, the organization has held meetings for psychological support of sick people, has been involved in testing and consulting.
Last year, the foundation opened a branch in St. Petersburg at Liteiny-41. In the creative center ‘Atelier’ tests for the presence of HIV or hepatitis with the ability to quickly (within 15 minutes) find out the results of the analysis were carried out.
Now the situation has changed and the representatives of the foundation are waiting for donations. In an interview with Afisha Daily, Yaroslav Rasputin, a representative of the Moscow branch of the fund, said that the organization was about to switch to austerity. He added that the staff of the fund agreed to cut wages. The organizers were forced to temporarily curtail the previously planned pre-exposure prophylaxis program.
So far, they have also abandoned plans to open a branch of the fund in the Kuban.
It is known that in Russia, 1.1 million citizens were officially registered as carriers of HIV by the beginning of October. Since 1987 (when the first HIV carrier was found in the country), about 400,000 infected people have died in Russia. In terms of the spread of HIV infection in the Russian Federation, it is almost 10 times higher than in the countries of the European Union.
