A LARGE CHEESE PRODUCER HAS GONE BANKRUPT IN ST. PETERSBURG
Arkon Retail, a well-known cheese manufacturer and supplier of dairy products, has declared bankruptcy in St. Petersburg. The court opened bankruptcy proceedings in this case. The debt in the amount of 92,464,101.01 rubles was included in the register of claims. Irina Kopus, representing the Self-regulatory Organization of Arbitration Managers "Strategy", was approved for the role of bankruptcy trustee
It is known that the company specialized in the production of various cheeses, managing five of its own brands. At the peak of its activity, in 2021, the company's factories released up to 850 tons of products to the market every month. However, financial difficulties have led to the accumulation of debts.
Initially, the initiator of the litigation against the organization was the tax authorities (case no. A56-43239/2023). In May 2023, they applied to arbitration with an application for the insolvency of the company, arguing that it had a debt of 8,965,230 rubles. The claim of the fiscal officers was left without motion, but in June Alfa-Bank filed a petition with the court. As a result, the cheese producer was first taken under surveillance, and on October 3, 2024, this became the basis for the opening of competitive production.
According to Delovoy Peterburg, by this time the total debt of the company had reached 170 million. The company owed over 100 million rubles to Alfa-Bank, including 61 million under the loan deal and the remainder under the service agreement. The creditors also included other counterparties (including the Baltic Coast Trading House, Diesel fuel and energy complex, and the Waytex company). The amount of claims on their part exceeds 14 million.
Experts have noticed that starting in 2022, Arkon Retail is literally bogged down in litigation. The firm became a defendant in several dozen lawsuits, while the financial condition of the company continued to deteriorate. With revenue of 518 million, the company earned only 3.6 million in profit, having accumulated liabilities of 220 million.
In 2023, according to experts, the organization stopped coping with the burden of paying off debt and stopped working. The company has come under numerous enforcement proceedings. During the observation period, her finances were calculated according to the latest available data, obtained in 2022. Until that time, 23 employees had been working at the company continuously over the past years.
Experts express the opinion that the bankruptcy of Arkon Retail was another confirmation that the dairy industry is facing serious challenges. They require comprehensive solutions from both businesses and regulators. The burden on manufacturers is increasing due to legislative changes, which in the current conditions of low margins may be a critical factor.
