The Lefortovo court of the capital has completed the consideration of the case of embezzlement of a large sum by the former CEO of the insurance company Respect, Alexander Artamonov (part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The case has been in court for more than a year. As a result, the ex-head of the company was sentenced to 6 years, which he must spend in a penal colony. The court recovered 2.1 billion rubles from Artamonov in a civil lawsuit. The lawyers expect to appeal the verdict.

According to Kommersant, Respect Insurance Company was the largest insurance company in the construction market. About 70% of the construction companies were under the control of the organization. According to data for 2017, Respect insured the liability of over 3.3 thousand such structures. The total amount of insurance premiums from them reached 6.8 billion rubles.

In 2019, the Insurance Company Respect was stripped of its license. The central bank pointed out that the construction company systematically violated the rights of its clients by illegally preventing them from receiving insurance payments. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation initiated a criminal investigation, initially stating that 5 billion rubles were stolen from the money of insured persons. During the investigation, the amount of damage was reduced.

According to the investigation, the crime was committed in the fall of 2017. Artamonov, the head of the Respect Insurance Company, and Alexander Kondratenkov, the business owner, formed a criminal group, appropriating the capital's real estate at a price of 700 million. More than 1.4 billion insurance premiums were withdrawn from the company.

Kondratenkov, who also controlled the Vector company, committed several more real estate frauds, receiving about 70 million. The Central Insurance Company (CSO), which was under his control, in 2017 turned out to be the winner of the tender in the amount of 13.7 billion. He allowed the organization to become an insurer for the life and health of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. But soon the CSO company was deprived of its license by the regulator.

Kondratenkov managed to leave the Russian Federation without waiting for his detention. As a result, the court arrested him in absentia. The entrepreneur acquired documents as a citizen of Chile, Alexander Garcia-Feskov, while continuing to travel to different countries. Attempts at extradition were unsuccessful.
