The Government of the Russian Federation has approved a new career holiday - the Pharmacist’s Day. Now it will be celebrated annually on May 19.
The corresponding decree was published on May 17 on the official Internet portal of legal information. The document has already been signed by the Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The Ministry of Health came up with an initiative to establish a new holiday.
The fact is that on May 19, 1581, with the permission of tsar Ivan the Terrible, the first pharmacy began to work in Russia - medicines were not only sold, but also produced there. Russian officials wanted to establish the holiday back in 2014 - then the congress of pharmaceutical workers voted for the idea.
We should recall that earlier, the Day of Ambulance Workers was introduced in the Russian Federation. It is celebrated on April 28.
