UN CONDEMNED EARLY MARRIAGES IN ZIMBABWE
The UN in Zimbabwe issued a statement of deep concern and condemnation of the death of a fourteen-year-old girl named Memory. She got married early and died in childbirth.

The UN called for an end to violence against women and children and an end to the practice of forced marriage, which continues to occur not only in African countries, but also in a number of European countries - among ethnic peoples and religious communities.

In the UK alone, hundreds of girls are annually married against their will. According to the charitable organizations that are involved in this problem, this happens due to insufficient legislative protection of children, reports Lenta.ru.

Situations with early and often forced marriage occur within the framework of religious marriages, which are not subject to compulsory state registration. Additionally, British law allows girls aged 16 to 17 to marry with parental consent. However, according to human rights defenders, this often happens under duress, and not with the permission of elders.

An investigation was conducted in Australia two years earlier. Over 100 forced child marriages have been identified.

There are cases when girls of 6 - 7 years old got married. This was mostly happening among the followers of Islam, including migrants from a number of Muslim countries.

In the situation with the death of Memory, the UN in Zimbabwe called for bringing persons responsible for the death of a girl to justice.
