TRIAL OF NAVALNY TAKES PLACE AT THE POLICE STATION
The City Court of Khimki is holding an offsite hearing on the case of opposition leader Alexei Navalny in the second department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Khimki. Navalny himself has already stated that he considers such a hearing a mockery of justice.
We should recall that the opposition leader was taken to the police station on January 17 - straight from Sheremetyevo airport, where his plane from Berlin arrived. The court is about to consider the application for the politician's detention.
In his Instagram, Navalny posted a video, in which he expressed his position on what was happening.
“I don’t understand what is happening, I was taken out of the cell 1 minute ago to meet the lawyers. I came here, and a hearing of the Khimki court is taking place here. Some people are taking video, some people are sitting in the hall - all this is called an open session of the Khimki court and the question of my arrest is being considered at the request of the police chief. Why is the court hearing taking place at the police station? I do not understand. Why no one was notified? Why didn’t they issue any citation? ” said Navalny.
The activist also added that he had seen mockery of justice before, but this time they were "so afraid of him that they have demonstratively torn up the Criminal Code and thrown it away."
“What is happening here is impossible. This is the highest degree of lawlessness”, added Navalny.
According to the Federal Penitentiary Service, the opposition leader was detained due to the case of embezzlement from Yves Rocher Company. It is assumed that instead of a suspended sentence, Navalny can get a jail one.
