THE SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19 HAVE CHANGED OVER A YEAR
Scientists from the UK conducted a study to find out how the symptoms of covid have changed since the beginning of the pandemic. For this purpose, medical histories and the results of mass PCR testing were studied.

The findings were published on medRxiv. The main symptoms of coronavirus in April-December 2020 were sore throat, loss of taste and smell, fever and cough. It is noted that that the vaccination program had not been launched yet and the majority of patients were infected with the virus of the ‘alpha’ strain.

In the winter of 2021, patients began to complain of intestinal symptoms.

What is more, various manifestations characteristic of respiratory infections have appeared. Since May 2021, many patients have been reporting headaches. At the same time, a runny nose and sore throat were more often recorded in those patients who were partially vaccinated.

Loss of tastes and smells began to be observed in every third infected person, and muscle pain and weakness in every second. It is reported that this happened after the delta strain had appeared. In total, data from almost 28 thousand people with positive tests for Covid-19 were processed to conduct the study.

Any symptoms of the disease appeared only in 48% of cases.

Scientists have found out in the event of having Covid-19 after the first stage of vaccination, the number of symptoms decreases, as well as the severity of their manifestation.
