THE POISONING OF NAVALNY: BREAKING NEWS

A 44-year old opposition activist Alexei Navalny is still fighting for his life. We should recall that during the flight from Tomsk, where the politician held meetings with his supporters, Navalny felt ill, which forced the aircraft crew to urgently land in Omsk. As a result, the member of opposition found himself in a coma and ended up in intensive care.

The deputy head physician of the clinic, where Navalny ended up, immediately announced a stable condition and a dozen of tests of the patient's body. It turned out that Alexei Navalny had no coronavirus, no heart attacks, and no blood stroke.

Later, the message about the development of the cerebral edema that had previously appeared on the Internet was refuted.

However, what exactly happened to the activist before boarding the plane or during the flight? Was Navalny really poisoned with a toxic substance that got into a glass of tea that Alexei drank at the airport? Or, as it was suggested by some of the media, the health of the politician was affected by the consumption of alcoholic beverages in the village of Kaftanchikovo a day before the flight, mixed with the effect of the sleeping pills?

The longer the diagnosis remains unknown, the more social tension in Russia and abroad increases. A number of foreign media linked the situation to the case of Skripals. During a briefing, the President of the United States announced that the White House administration was investigating the situation, and Trump would receive a report on it in the nearest future.

The heads of France and Germany reacted to the state of health of Navalny. The French President Emmanuel Macron announced his readiness to support the provision of the political asylum and medical assistance to the activist, calling for the greater transparency in the investigation of the incident. German leader Angela Merkel also announced her readiness to take over the treatment of Navalny.

A number of German media have reported that Jake Bizilge, the head of the "Cinema for Peace" human rights organization, is already dealing with the issue of delivering a patient to a German clinic.

However, the earliest and, at the same time, the most restrained reaction was the statement of the Kremlin press service, which declared its readiness to facilitate the possible transportation of the member of opposition to one of the foreign clinics, if necessary.

And while the world politicians express their concern about the incident and decide, how to respond to what has happened, the protests against the alleged poisoning have already begun in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In St. Petersburg, the protesters from the Vesna movement chose the FSB building on the Liteiny Prospekt as an object.

Leaving the paper cups of tea on the doorstep, they urge to investigate the case of Navalny as honestly and openly as possible.

A similar action took place on Nevsky Prospekt near the Gostiny Dvor metro station. There were no arrests.

A different situation evolves near the FSB building on Lubyanka, where the small protests have also begun to take place. It is known that several people in Moscow have already been detained. The political analysts are still inclined to consider the alleged poisoning of the activist as the actions of those persons, whose cases Navalny has been investigating recently. Another version circulating in the media is that the poisoning is an act of his supporters, who are trying to attract the votes on the eve of the September elections by means of this action.
