THE MAYOR OF TOMSK WAS ARRESTED OVER ABUSE OF POWER

The Investigative Committee announced the arrest of the head of Tomsk Ivan Klein - he is suspected of the power abuse. According to the sources, the arrest took place early in the morning of Friday, November 13.

The details of the incident are still unknown, but the Mash Telegram channel reports that the mayor was detained during a conference call. Another telegram channel, Observer in Tomsk, notes that the officers of FSS took part in the operation, and the mayor himself was taken out of the building in handcuffs.

The media report that the mayor's case is related to paragraph 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - the maximum sentence is up to 7 years in prison.

Ivan Klein has been the head of Tomsk since 2013. Before that, he managed one of the largest breweries in the region - Tomsk Beer for 20 years. It is interesting that after Klein's transition to a government position, his wife became the CEO of the enterprise. According to some information, the detention of the mayor may be related precisely to the activities of Tomsk Beer - he allegedly was giving illegal instructions in favor of the plant.

It is also worth noting that the Deputy Mayor of Tomsk Yevgeny Surikov resigned due to the bribery charges this summer. It is reported that in 2016-2018, an official received a large bribe from a woman who needed assistance of the authorities.
