THE CAPITAL OF LENINGRAD REGION WAS MOVED TO GATCHINA CITY
The Governor of the Leningrad Region, Alexander Drozdenko, signed a law according to which the state bodies of the region will be located not only in St. Petersburg, but also in Gatchina. The document came into force from the date of publication.

Now the city of Gatchina has officially become the capital of the Leningrad region, before it was St. Petersburg. Under the new rules, deputies will have to be in both cities.

The establishment of the status of the capital of the Leningrad Region for Gatchina was approved on March 24.

It should be noted that the decision was not sudden - the regional authorities had planned to appoint an appropriate status to Gatchina for a long time. Previously, it was assumed that the city will become the capital before the end of 2020, but the process has been slightly delayed. Officials will now have to completely relocate by 2022.

Communicating with journalists, Governor Drozdenko said that Gatchina was a very convenient city and deserved to be the capital. It is planned to launch a high-speed train that will connect Gatchina with St. Petersburg in the near future.
