STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED IN NEW YORK DUE TO GUN VIOLENCE
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the introduction of a state of emergency in his Twitter. The reason for this was the frequency of incidents of violence with the use of firearms.
Cuomo noted that he meant a crisis in the public health system. Celebrations in honor of Independence Day were held in New York last weekend (July 3-5). As a result, 26 people were injured in 21 cases of shooting.
Now the authorities of New York will establish a new Gun-violence prevention office.
Nearly $ 139 million in state aid will be allocated for the programs that will be able to prevent such cases from recurring. There will be additional jobs for young people to take them away from the streets. The new police unit will also be established soon - it will deal with the fight against illegal weapons and prevent their supplies to the state.
According to the governor's press office, about 74% of all weapons used in crimes in New York were bought in other states.
