Skillbox and GeekBrains start mass layoffs

About three hundred people left their positions at Skillbox and GeekBrains, which are parts of Skillbox Holding Limited. This fate overtook mainly producers and methodologists, but there is an opinion that the trend is a mass one.

According to the representative of the holding, a number of organizational changes are currently being implemented in connection with the revealed duplicating duties of employees. Because of the unification of essentially similar functions, some employees have lost their positions, Vedomosti reports.

According to Andrey Anishchenko, who previously owned a stake in Skillbox, the period of active quantitative growth of the companies included in the holding is coming to an end, now it is time to demonstrate the systematic management, as well as a consistent increase in profits.

The situation is connected with the general situation in the market of similar educational services.

Skillbox Holding Limited was founded at the end of last summer by Mail.ru Group (VK Group at the moment). The company owns slightly more than 50% of the shares. Last November, the holding entered a deal to buy a Brazil online school.

In December 2021, VK Group changed its main owner: instead of Alisher Usmanov’s USM, control over the group of companies passed to structures close to Gazprom, and Sergei Kiriyenko's son Vladimir was appointed the new CEO of company.
