SKI RESORTS OF EUROPE MIGHT BE CLOSED DUE TO THE SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS

German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated she would insist on the closure of European ski resorts next winter. At the same time, she noted that some states would be unlikely to agree to this – Austria, for example.

Merkel believes that the proposed measure will help to avoid the active spread of the coronavirus. So far, we are talking about the closure of resorts at least until January 10, 2021, so as not to expose tourists to the risk of infection. However, according to Merkel, Austria does not intend to introduce restrictions.

“Unfortunately, when we hear the Austrian side, we understand that this cannot be achieved. But we will try again”, said the chancellor.

It is known that the words of Merkel about the closure of all European resorts caused a wave of disapproval, but the session was not interrupted. She also added that restrictions in Germany would remain until the end of January.

During the first wave of coronavirus, Austrian ski resorts were already called "hotbeds of the virus", since many returning tourists were infected with covid. Now the German authorities fear that due to the New Year holidays, tourists will go skiing to Austria again, repeating the situation.

It is also worth noting that in Russia this year for the first time winter skiing holidays are offered not only in Krasnaya Polyana, but also in the Khibiny of the Murmansk region, as well as in Sheregesh of the Kemerovo region. Alternatives have emerged due to the unavailability of popular European resorts.
