RUSSIANS STARTED TO USE MORE OBSCENE EXPRESSIONS AFTER A BAN ON PROFANITY WAS INTRODUCED IN SOCIAL NETWORKS
According to Medialogia, after the ban on obscene language in social networks, Russians started to use such expressions even more. Compared to the previous year, the number of swear words increased by a third.
According to RBC, the report of which is based on the statistics obtained, only for February 1-2, 2021, users of Russian social networks used obscene words in 646,100 publications. We are talking about the Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, VKontakte, and Odnoklassniki social networks. On February 3-4, 2020 (these days were also weekdays), Russians used such expressions 426,500 times.
For statistics, experts calculated the use of 66 obscene words.
The words were counted not only in the posts themselves, but also in the comments. It is noted that in 2020, at the beginning of February, the main topics for discussion were the coronavirus, female officials in fur coats, people who handed bread to the blockade veterans and the collapse of the roof of the Peterburgsky sports complex. This year, the arrest of Navalny and rallies are discussed most often.
We should recall that since February 1, 2021, profanity in social networks has been officially banned in Russia. Now services are required to delete publications with obscene language within 24 hours - the responsibility for monitoring is assigned to the social networks themselves. Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications has included in this list the websites that are visited by at least half a million people a day, and where users can create personal pages and chat.
It should be noted that there is no responsibility for social networks under the new amendment. However, a fine can still be imposed under article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses - it deals with the punishment for a legal entity that has not blocked prohibited content (a fine of 800 thousand to 4 million rubles, in case of repeated violation - up to 1/10 of the company's annual revenue). What is more, social networks will have to provide the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications with reports on the performed work, but their form has not yet been worked out.
